It started in the summer of 2012 when Lawrence Alexander was invited to participate in Artlovemagic's July Art and Coffee. He was asked to create something digitally  (vector) live and on site. Luckily, Lawrence was already working on a piece featuring four of the most popular of Capcom's Street Fighter II characters: Ryu, Ken, Chun Li and Guile. The project gained so much popularity, he would be asked by random people to do more characters from the iconic game. So he decided to make a tribute to all of the characters from Super Street Fighter II. The project in total took about a year and a half with about 8 hours per character.
