Wounded Warriors Project Auction at the Dallas Comic Con - May 19, 2012

On the weekend of the Dallas Comic Con, there was an auction held at the Aloft Hotel in Las Colinas for the Wounded Warrior Project benefiting disabled veterans.

In this auction, various pieces were donated by professional comic book artist and live art donated by the likes of ArtLoveMagic's Dave Rodriguez, Michael Champion, and the legendary Brian Stelfreeze. Bob Leudke, another local comic book artist, invited Lawrence to create a piece for the event to be auctioned, in which the goal would be to raise $2,000. Seeing this to be an honor, Lawrence Alexander started on a board with prisma color for a drawing of Captain America, similar to the piece done at Comicpalooza.

Later, Lawrence set up to finish at the show where many on-lookers witnessed the finishing touches of the piece to be auctioned later that night. All the while, Dave Rodriguez worked on a painting of Tank Girl while Brian Stelfreeze created a portrait of Black Widow
(from Marvel's "The Avengers").

As an added bonus, Bob Leudke created and donated a portrait of Stan Lee. The portrait was then signed by the man, Stan Lee, himself! Along with this, many DVDs, prints, original art and other goodies were up for grabs
as people were lining up for a great cause.

At the end of the night, the auction was held. Many pieces were sold at $150 and up. However, the Captain America sold at a whopping leading bid of $1,025.00! Indeed, it was an honor for Lawrence to be a part of such a worth while event that shattered the goal by raising over $11,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project. Lawrence wanted to create a piece that spoke to the event and the times. In the comic book world, Captain America represents those who gave their lives for our country, so he went that route and created something that we are honored that people embraced my talent and gift. We hope that what contributed went to help some of those soldiers and their families.
